Western Cap Guns were very popular from the early 1900s to the early 1960s. It was at this time that some toy cap gun manufacturers turned to space themes with their cap guns. Most of these space cap guns were designed as space guns or rockets in the tradition of Buck Rogers and other space fantasies. In the 1960s movie studios produced sci-fi films almost as fast as Westerns movies, Even American Automobiles of the 1950s and 1960s were equipped with space age tail fins.

The Atomic Disintegrator, created in 1954, was the only space gun made by The Hubley Manufacturing Company of Lancaster, PA. They were also a manufacturer cap guns since 1894. The Atomic Disintegrator Space Cap Guns are considered one of the most desirable of all the ray cap guns for collectors. This Space Cap Gun is made of die cast metal and plastic.

The Space Outlaw Atomic Ray gun cap pistol was made in England in the 1950s and 1960s by the B.C.M. Company. It is made of diecast plated zinc alloy metal. The Space Outlaw was a unique cap gun of futuristic design.
