Leonard Franklin Slye or better known as Roy Rogers was born on November 5, 1911 and died on July 6, 1998. He legally changed his name in 1942. Roy Rogers was a very famous American singer and western actor.
Over the years he became known as the “King of the Cowboys”. In 1942 Roy Rogers was considered the second most popular Western movie star following Gene Autry. By 1943 he was the most popular Western movie star.
Roy Rogers appeared in over 100 movie films, numerous radio programs (nine years) and television shows (1951-1957) known as “The Roy Rogers Show”. Appearing in these films and television shows was Dale Evans his wife of many years, Trigger his beautiful palomino horse and Bullet his talented German Shepherd. Also appearing in his television shows was Pat Brady and Gabby Hayes.
Roy Rogers consistently played a good looking, easy going, good singing and good gun toting good guy in the movies. Movie theater owners rated Roy Rogers as the top Western TV star from 1943 to 1954. He then had the top rated TV Western show called “The Roy rogers Show” from 1951 to 1957 and “The Roy Rogers and Dale Evens from 1962 to 1963.
